Job Summary:
The Non-Emergency Ambulance Driver is responsible for safely operating medical transport vehicles to provide scheduled, non-emergency transportation for patients. This role supports EMS personnel and patients by ensuring safe, timely, and comfortable transport between residences, hospitals, and healthcare facilities in compliance with South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) regulationsand company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate an ambulance or medical transport vehicle in non-emergency situations.
- Transport patients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, dialysis centers, and other facilities.
- Assist EMTs or medical personnel with loading, unloading, and securing patients.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during transport.
- Maintain communication with dispatch regarding schedules, delays, and trip updates.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and ensure cleanliness, fueling, and readiness.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and required documentation.
- Follow all local, state (South Carolina DPH), and federal regulations.
- Use proper safety procedures when assisting with patient movement and transport equipment.
- Provide courteous and professional service to patients and healthcare staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Ability to safely assist with patient movement and transport.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) or EMS.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- Familiarity with stretcher operations and patient securement.
- Knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and healthcare facilities.
